Audio Visual Group

Welcome to the AV Group

The Audio Visual Group welcomes all members interested in the art of audio-visual making. It is a challenge to combine images, sound and narrative to achieve a production which will absorb the viewer and elicit an emotional response.

With the arrival of digital AV, the medium has become more accessible and popular. The best way to learn what makes a good AV is to watch what others have made. Take every opportunity to do this by, e.g.:

  • Attending APSCON or the conventions in your own state.
  • Attend, if you are able, our National and International judging days.
  • Visit sites on the web where you can view the work of others, although these are usually .exe files which can only be accessed by PC users and not Mac users.
  • If you would like to know more, contact the APS Secretary who will put you in touch with the Group Chair, Alia Naughton.

Assistance and advice can be given on equipment and software to use according to your budget and anticipated type of productions. Creating an AV does take a while, but when you have done your first one you can, if you wish, have it evaluated with some constructive and positive advice.

The Group has its own online folio for AV makers, but you must be a paid up member of AV Division to participate.  Members are enjoying sharing their work in a private manner and getting feedback and suggestions for improvements or before sending the work off to a competition.  There have been a number of success stories for members of the Folio.  If you would like to join, please contact the APS office to arrange an invitation to the web folio from the Folio Director.

Members of AV Group have the opportunity to enter their work into three national competitions each year, and every second year, the International AVFest which is held in Adelaide. These competitions are open to AVs made on either a PC or Mac, and the accepted file formats are listed on the entry form.
