I am a 47 yr old woman who loves photography, to me photography is an art form. Sometimes I like to capture an image just as it is so that other can experience the world through my eyes and other times I take an image for the express purpose of altering it. Sometimes I see something & think wow I could turn this into something else...sometimes it works & sometimes its a write off!
I have severe osteoarthritis in my spine & also have fybromyalgia, so I have to work around my pain. I use a Fuji S200 EXR, I preferred the S100fx but that is no longer available, this is what is known as a bridge camera. It has all the controls of a full SLR (except only 30 sec bulb setting) but it does not have interchangeable lenses. It comes with a 28-425 lens, so it has a huge range covered as well as the lens having image stabilization. I find that by using this I am not lugging around a huge kit, which is impossible with my back.
I ran my own photography & printing business for 4 yrs back in the days of film but when digital came in I left the field for a while. I returned to photography as a way to stay sane, there was so little I could do with my condition, so I thought, "What is my passion" & straight away realized it was photography. It gives me great pleasure as well as allowing me to give something back to others. My motto is "Bringing the awesome splendor of nature direct to you", I realized so many people never get the time to enjoy nature, so I would try to take it to them whether in an office, a home or even a hospital bed. One of my artworks has been used in the Healing Photo Art Program ( http://bit.ly/cA586s ) which places art in hospitals. I have won numerous competitions and been published in "Photography Vibes". I have sold quite a bit of my work for educational use, web site design, advertising, cards, calenders, clothing and for fine art gifts. It gives me great satisfaction to be able to produce something that others get pleasure from.
I live in Busselton in the South West of Western Australia so I have beautiful scenery right on my doorstep. My husband & I have recently brought a caravan & have begun traveling. Next year we hope to do the big one around Oz, or at least some of the way round, so lots more opportunities to come.
My love is scenery and nature although I try to capture a wide variety of images as I also sell my stock images with OzImages. My website is http://www.juliaharwood.com . My other sites are also listed here depending on what you are interested in, feel free to browse & comment if you like.
