A quick overview of the management structure of the Australian Photographic Society

The Management Team is a two tiered system of governance.

The Management Committee (MC) comprises 7 individuals with voting rights. All members of this MC team are encouraged to participate in full discussion in the general meetings.

The MC comprises of an Executive Committee - President, Senior Vice President, Junior Vice President and Immediate Past President. The other 3 positions are General Members. It is anticipated the General Members will have a portfolio.

The Society has 6 Groups - Audio Visual, Contemporary, Digital, Nature and Youth. Each Group Chairman has automatic placement as an ED. The MC may constitute subcommittees at any time and may, at their discretion, give the Chairman of the Subcommittee a place on the ED.

Position of Honours Subcommittee Chairperson

This position will be responsible as Chair of the Honours Subcommittee. It may be an MC or ED portfolio, at the discretion of the Management Committee.

The APS offers its own Honours, and also recommends photographers for International Distinctions conferred by the lntemational Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP). Honours are awarded for photographic excellence as well as service to photography. Many APS members have achieved photographic Honours ranging from LAPS to MAPS and AFIAP to MFIAP. The APS Honours of LAPS (Licentiate of the APS) and AAPS (Associate of the APS) are available subject to the applicant having been a member of APS for at least one year as at the closing date of applications. You may start at either the LAPS or AAPS level.

A full Policies and Procedures Manual is available to assist the applicant in this position. Additionally, support will be provided by the Management Team and Business Manager.

Primarily the applicant will need to:

  •  uphold the The Rules of Association of the Society.

  • Strive to continually improve the organisation's policy, activities and administration.

  • Represent the Society to the outside world.

The applicant will be expected to:

  • Have a thorough knowledge of the APS Honors and FIAP Honours systems.
  • Lead discussions within the Honours Subcommittee.
  • Communicate and report to the Management Commitee.
  • Administer the Honours systems (both skill and service) of the APS.
  • Be responsibility for FIAP Distinction within the APS.
  • Be responsible for the publicity and budgeting of the Honours Subcommittee.
  • Be prepared to be considered as a member of the Management Team, therefore it will be expected for the applicant to participate in general meetings.
  • Have computer and internet access and be prepared to use it for communication between the Management Team (both email and web).
