Overview of the management structure of the Australian Photographic Society

The Management Team is a two-tiered system of governance.

The Management Committee (MC) comprises seven individuals with voting rights. All members of this MC team are encouraged to participate in full discussion in the general meetings.

The MC comprises an Executive Committee - President, Senior Vice President, Junior Vice President, Treasurer and Immediate Past President. The other two positions are General Members.

The Society has five Specialist Groups - Audio Visual, Contemporary, Digital, Nature and Print. Each Group has a member of MC allocated to them as a Liaison Officer.

Position of Marketing and Sponsorship Manager

The aim of this role is to provide a single point of contact for the both the Australian Photographic Society (and its special interest groups) and potential sponsors. 

This role includes:

  • identifying opportunities for businesses and APS and its Groups to work together for their mutual benefit.
  • manage relationships with sponsors effectively.
  • maintain a record of the benefits which APS can realistically deliver to sponsors.
  • work as a member of a sponsorship and marketing team, liaising regularly with the APS’s management committee (MC) to deliver specific benefits in line with the APS’s goals for 2021 and into the future.

Primarily the Marketing and Sponsorship Manager will need to:

  • uphold the The Rules of Association of the Society.
  • strive to continually improve the organisation's policy, activities and administration.
  • represent the Society to the outside world.


Support from Management Committee

The Management Committee will work with the Marketing and Sponsorship manager to:

  • provide relevant assistance and direction as required.

Applicants should decide if they have:

  • adequate time to do this position justice.
  • a genuine interest in voluntary committee work.
  • a genuine interest in the objectives of the Society.
  • an independent mind.
  • the ability to make decisions based on principles rather than on personalities or personal beliefs.
  • good standing in the community.

Specifically, the sponsorship manager will:

  • Conduct a Simple Sponsorship Audit
  • Identify current sponsors. Identify what is sponsored within the Society (ie is it general sponsorship of the APS or a specific event/competition like the photo book awards), by whom, why, and the benefits for both the sponsor and APS and the value of the sponsorship.
  • Liaise with the Management Committee and special interest groups as appropriate to identify shortfalls and opportunities in the current APS sponsorship program.
  • Assemble a short list of sponsor organisations which might be interested in working with the APS for mutual benefit.
  • Approach and secure sponsors:

On behalf of APS, approach and secure potential sponsors agreed by the Management Committee.  Emphasis needs to be on the two-way benefits of a working agreement, where APS delivers as much as it benefits.

Catalogue of benefits which the APS can deliver to sponsors could include:

  • Logo on livery including website, invitations, flyers, PowerPoint slides, etc
  • Editorial and logo in suitable APS publications
  • Inclusion on APS social media – main page and Friends of APS
  • Email, from APS, to members re the sponsor organisation
  • Speaking roles at relevant conferences or webinars

Catalogue of benefits which APS may wish to seek from a sponsor:

  • APS logo on sponsor website, newsletter, flyers, etc.
  • APS noted in suitable sponsor organisations
  • Inclusion of APS in sponsor social media – raising profile of APS with a new/different target market
  • Email from sponsor organisation to its members/customers/readers/etc as appropriate
  • Speaking roles for APS MC members at relevant sponsor events.
  • Liaise with sponsors

Be the main point of contact for sponsors in effecting their benefits, manage the expectations of both the sponsor and the APS, and ensure the APS receives its sponsorship entitlements.
