For over 13 years, the Ballarat International Foto Biennale has enriched the cultural landscape of regional Victoria and become the most significant, prestigious photographic arts festival in Australia.

Held every two years we showcase work from domestic and international artists that is new, previously unseen in Australia or contextualised afresh; and in our Open Program we foster the development of new artists. Alongside there are public programs and education programs comprising talks, workshops and prizes which round out a rich and diverse cultural event that attracts more than 26,000 people, delivering significant economic and cultural impact.

This year brings again outstanding photographic exhibitions in the Art Gallery of Ballarat where the major international exhibition will be held, plus a number of additional new and exciting photography exhibitions.

Full APSCON registrations will include one paid ticket to the International Photography Exhibition located in the Art Gallery of Ballarat on Lydiard Street.

The Mining Exchange just nearby will house an exciting photographic exhibition along with several other photographic exhibitions.

The new National Centre for Photography, a short walk down Lydiard Street, will be the venue for a number of additional photographic exhibitions and installations.

The major buildings in Ballarat will also house Fine Art exhibitions and photography displays of many different genres. These are all free entry.

And that’s just the Core Exhibition circuit, the Open exhibitions across Ballarat will host many more exciting and interesting photography collections, the Ballarat Biennale is an absorbing and inspiring experience that will enthral all photographers.

The APSCON Shuttle will take you from the Mercure Hotel to Ballarat Central and return daily on Thursday and Friday, giving every Delegate time to stroll this lovely city and the fantastic collections of renowned photography by Australian and International artists.

Further updates to the Biennale program and announcements of the major artists will be made around June.

See more at ballaratfoto.org and take advantage of the APSCON program and experience all that the Biennale has to offer.

Gastro Pubs and Breweries

The pub is always a welcoming respite especially on winter days as an escape from the great outdoors. But while back in the day, we’d be happy with a plate of hot chips and a pint of ale, these days we expect a lot more.

Ballarat has become renowned for some of the best gastro pubs, offering fine food, great beer and local wine selections too. Also recognised for its crafted beer and amazing breweries, Ballarat is the place to explore to sample some of the amazing tastes.
