Brian Russell EFIAP FAPS

Sunday:  10.30am - 11:30am

Guest Speaker:   "Macro Photography with Advancing Technology"

Brian joined APS around 1982, not long after joining the Bundaberg Photographic Group. It wasn’t long before he found himself in two APS Nature folios where he believes he had hit the jackpot in terms of mentors with experience and an unending willingness to share their knowledge. Birds and macro photography (particularly fungi) were his main natural history interests at the time and continue to be so. He seems to have gone full circle as he has re-engaged in the APS digital folio system which he enjoys immensely, but this time he believes he has more to offer rather than taking out as he was in the eighties.

Living relatively close to the Lamington National Park in south east Queensland, this wilderness area provides a great source of subject matter, particularly fungi. He continues to visit western Qld most years and never tires of the birds that he manages to see and sometimes photograph. From one year to the next – the seasons and conditions always provide new experiences.

He has had the privilege of judging APS Nationals and Internationals since the 1990’s. The most recent internationals have been the QIDC and the Redland International Exhibition of Photography.

At the beginning of 2019 he took on the role of chair of the APS Nature Group where he continues to promote the value of the APS folio system and with a committed group of council members, they continue to work at promoting the ethical photography of natural history and provide natural history workshops where they can.
