Dr Dean Holland

Saturday:  9.15am - 10:15am

Keynote Speaker:   "Dont Buy that Camera..... Yet !"

Dean Holland taught his first photography course back in 1995. He has lived and worked in Australia, Canada, England, Indonesia, the Philippines, Colombia, Peru, and Bolivia in a range of occupations: from a social scientist and insect scientist to a development worker and expedition photographer.

Using his PhD in adult learning, he specialises in helping people use their everyday knowledge to learn technical subjects. With groups as diverse as Amazonian farmers, research scientists and company executives, Dean has run hundreds of workshops in both English and Spanish, and created Australia’s largest environmental Registered Training Organisation.

Dean’s love of photography started in his teens, when he built his first darkroom in his attic at home. His perspective on photography changed when his two children came along. Photography became play again, and a thing for his family to share.

Dean started Take Better Photos in 2007 to share photography as a fun part of life, rather than a maths test. Realising that most people are intimidated by the settings on their camera, Take Better Photos’ photography courses include “cheat cards” for every participant’s camera model, so everyone can confidently use the key features of their camera. And the courses are 1-year passes so participants can come back as often as they want. Over 9,000 Brisbanites have enjoyed Take Better Photos’ range of courses from beginner to advanced, including photo editing, shooting with iPhones, personal tuition, corporate team building, and now courses and shows with Australia’s most famous photographer, Steve Parish.
