COMMONWEALTH MEDAL
- Requirements - This is a major distinction awarded annually if suitable candidates are nominated, in recognition of exceptional achievement in practical photographic work or administration leading to the advancement of photography in the fields of:
(a) Scientific and Technological Photography (published papers, new processes).
(b) Professional Photography (for photographers who have advanced standards by work with professional groups and by personal example).
(c) Amateur Photography (for general work by service and example towards the advancement of standards of photography in Australia). - Limit - Only one Medal will be awarded in any one year; provided a worthy recipient is found.
- Membership - It is not necessary for nominees to be members of APS.
- Sponsorship - Each nomination must be sponsored by two APS members.
- Use - Award not to be used when exhibiting images.
- Members of the HSC will be responsible for reviewing all submissions for this medal; but may also consider persons who have not been nominated.
AP-R MEDAL
- This is a prestigious award, and is only presented to those who have made a significant contribution to the promotion of the Art of Photography within Australia. This may be by teaching, exhibitions, including gallery showings, or publications, such as “Image”.
- Limit - No more than two may be awarded in any one year; provided worthy recipients are found.
- Membership - It is not necessary for nominees to be members of APS.
- Sponsorship - Each nomination must be sponsored by two APS members.
- Use - Award not to be used when exhibiting images.
- Members of the HSC will be responsible for reviewing all submissions for this medal; but may also consider persons who have not been nominated.
LES NEWCOMBE AWARD
- Awarded for outstanding contribution to Creative photography in any photographic medium.
- Awarded annually if there is a suitable applicant.
- Nominees must be APS members.
- Applications are to be in the form of submissions, listing in detail the work and achievements of the applicant.
- Sponsorship - Each nomination must be sponsored by two APS members.
APS NATURE MEDALLION (Nature Group only to nominate)
- Awarded for a contribution to excellence in Nature photography. The contribution may be in photographic form, but not necessarily so.
- To be awarded annually, provided a worthy recipient is found.
- The Nature Group Chairman shall nominate the panel of three, including a Chairman. The panel is approved by HSC, then recommended to MC (to cover a two year period).
- The panel shall consider all nominations received, but may also consider persons who have not been nominated.
- Any person is eligible, and no preference will be given to members of APS or residents of Australia.
APS AUDIO VISUAL MEDALLION (AV Group only to nominate)
- Awarded for a contribution to excellence in Audio Visual photography. The contribution may be in photographic form, but not necessarily so.
- To be awarded annually, provided a worthy recipient is found.
- The Audio Visual Group Chairman shall nominate the panel of three, including a Chairman. The panel is approved by HSC, then recommended to MC (to cover a two-year period).
- The panel shall consider all nominations received, but may also consider persons who have not been nominated.
- Any person is eligible, and no preference will be given to members of APS or residents of Australia.
DISCONTINUED - JOHN LOW MEDALLION (Digital Group only to nominate)
- Awarded for contribution to excellence in Digital Photography. The contribution may be in photographic form, but not necessarily so.
- One only to be awarded annually, provided a worthy recipient is found.
- The Digital Group Chairman shall nominate a panel of three, including a Chairman, to consider nominations. The panel is to be approved by HSC and recommended to MC for appointment for a two-year period.
- The panel shall consider all nominations received, but may also consider other persons who have not been nominated.
- Any person is eligible, and no preference will be given to members of APS or residents of Australia.
